Gas in oil 350 chevy

Fuel filled oil pan chevy 350. Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by boydsdodge, Sep 4, 2010. 350 cid all stock restored except the spread bore from what I know of the car. I had adventures with gas in my oil from the carb loading up with gas & the sbc flooding drastically. You could smell it on the dipstick.

Gas getting into oil becomes a cause for concern when the volume of gas exceeds 2.5 percent. If a large amount of gasoline does get into the engine oil; change the oil immediately upon fixing the problem that has allowed this to happen. Sbc 350, just over 500 mile rebuild . New everything . Yesterday I went from an Edelbrock 1411 to a Holly demon 1901. 750 cfm to 625. The 750 ran okay but I definitely needed something smaller. The demon is brand new out of the box. Running rich off of my Afr gauge 10.5 and bumping in to 9 off idle. Exhaust is running black . I read posts already with most saying the fuel pump but since I just changed this carb then it may be more likely the carb. Something to point out, with the 750 carb Hello I'm Vince from Scott City Kansas I have a 76 Chevy 1 ton dually I'm turning in to my welding rig with all the weight I'm gonna have on it I wanna swap the worn out 350 to a 2003 8.1L which I just acquired the whole truck for free the truck has been totaled but motor tranny is all good same 350 Chevy - do I have to soak the lifters in oil over night before installing? Joined: Jul 2011 When you are changing the oil in your vehicle, one of the worst things to notice is the smell of gas in your oil pan. It means that gasoline is somehow making its way into your engine's oil, a problem that can cost hundreds of dollars to repair. When a fuel injector is stuck open, the fuel will flood out. Gasoline will definitely get into the oil when this is the case. If the fuel pressure in your car is too high (above 7 psi) that may cause gasoline to get into the engine oil. Gas could also leak into your intake manifold if there is a carburetor problem. An inoperative injector Running thinner oils in an older engine might possibly cause it to burn oil (or more oil than it does). That said, for a good tight engine 5/30 or 10/30 should be fine--if you aren't sure, try it and watch your oil pressure on the real hot days, esp. at idle. If you don't like what you see switch to the next higher grade.

The Chevy 350 requires a specific type of oil to get the best out of performance, but why does an engine need motor oil in the first place?

Re: Oil smells like fuel??? 10-16-06 04:31 AM - Post# 1015068 In response to 77chevy Well, you guys where right. I changed the oil and the fuel filter and the gas went away. When changed the oil the oil was pretty bad it looked like and smelled like there was alot of fuel in there. It looks fine now. Thanks for the help. I checked the dipstick one time and it looked milky and green, but no bubbles so I knew it couldn't be antifreeze/water mix. From my experience and if its oil that smells like gas, you can have excessive ring blow-by, a horribly rich mixture (if carbed), or bad leak-down from your injectors that result in cylinders getting gas puddles in them, which subsequently get past the rings while standing.
